The Groom´s Side
A letter to the Groom´s family and friends.
Bibi and I are happy to announce that we´re getting married in Villa de Leyva on January 25, 2014.
We couldn´t more exited about bringing together our friends and families from across the continent to celebrate this with us.
To all my friends and family in the U.S. who want to be here but can´t make the journey, please believe me when I say I understand. The biggest sacrifice that I´m making with this wandering lifestyle that I´ve chosen is that its become impossible for me to make it to both the big events and weddings, as well as the regular gatherings for ballgames and frisbee. You´ll be here in spirit.
To those of you who do want to try to come, read up.
Bogota is Colombia´s largest city, where Bibi´s family is from. While Bogota is a city I love and is one of the cultural centers of all Latin America, it also can be a dangerous city, especially when we have a group of gringos arriving in mass, and hopefully attracting attention with lots of raucous behavior!
Villa de Leyva is a 3 hour drive from Bogota. Its a beautiful colonial village whose economy is driven by local artisans, agriculture, and tourism. Perfect climate, relaxed atmoshere...it was one of my favorite places throughout my travels. I have no doubt that it will forver hold a special place in my heart after this event.
The wedding will be held at this villa, about a mile from the plaza of villa de leyva. We also hope to host lots of merry making here throughout the week.
Villa de Leyva is full of all calibers of hotels, from budget dorm style hostals to b&bs and higher end hotels. We will post recommendations soon on this site.
We will also allow anyone to camp on the grounds from January 21 - January 26th.
If it is at all possible, we would strongly prefer you schedule your flight to Bogota that Tuesday or Wednesday as we will be arranging transport to and from Villa de Leyva those days. If not, we will have to figure out other transportation, though of course we´ll be happy to assist you if this just isnt´t possible.
Round Trip Flights from Atlanta Ga start at $500 arriving Tuesday and Leaving Monday. If anyone finds better rates than this, please let me know.
